In January 2023, 10 Upstalsboomkes (trainees) went on their tour of a lifetime for the third time in Upstalsboom's history. This time, their tour took them to Dr Uta Düll's Gikonko Health Centre, where they spent a fortnight on site helping the hospital team with all kinds of tasks.
The trainees cooked lunch for 50-60 people, ran activities and games with the children, supported Dr Uta Düll in the administrative area, built houses in the village and experienced caesarean sections live. They slept in small mud huts.
They were accompanied by three other Upstalsboomers, including Bodo Janssen, as well as two cooks from the island of Föhr and an intensive care nurse from Emden. Several meetings were held in advance for organisational and mental preparation. The participants underwent many health checks and intensive discussions and diligently collected donations, which they handed over to the hospital.
