Our Groupe Scolaire school in Murambi

This was our first project. In autumn 2015, 3 classrooms and a rainwater cistern were completed. Together with the local children and teachers, we celebrated the inauguration in February 2016.

In this primary school, 1,893 pupils attend school every day in 28 classrooms and are taught by 32 teachers. To enable all children to attend lessons, some attend school in the morning and some in the afternoon. There is no possibility of school meals, not even water is continuously available. Many children go to the nearest village before school to get water supplies.

Our school École Primaire in Kabirizi

In this primary school, 541 pupils were taught in 7 classrooms. We have built 2 more classrooms, an office for the teachers, a latrine block with 10 cubicles and a rainwater cistern.

The village of Kabirizi is quite remote and many children therefore have to walk one to several hours every day to get to school. The cistern is therefore essential for the water supply.

The inauguration of the new rooms was celebrated in the presence of Upstalsboomers at the end of May 2017.

During this event, the headmaster Martin was presented with school uniforms for all pupils, which we were able to have tailored thanks to our Christmas wish tree campaign.

Our school École Primaire in Dahwe

This school has 1,147 pupils who are taught by 15 teachers in a total of 17 classrooms. Upstalsboom has built and equipped 3 additional classrooms and installed a rainwater cistern.

The inauguration of the new rooms was celebrated in the presence of Upstalsboom employees at the end of May 2017.

Many gifts were presented to Headmaster Joseph and his pupils at this event. These included ballpoint pens, pencils, coloured pencils and crayons as well as skipping ropes, balls, football shirts, flashcards and English books.

Our school École Primaire in Sanzu

This school was founded in 1971 and is currently attended by 1,144 pupils who are taught by 16 teachers.

Some of the buildings are dilapidated and have no paved floors. The roofs are leaking and when it rains all the children have to take shelter in the slightly newer classrooms, which makes it impossible to continue lessons.

There are not enough school desks. Some of the children sit on makeshift seating blocks made of stone and cement. The floor is too damp to sit on woven mats. The children write with their exercise books on their knees.

There are only 12 latrine cubicles for over 1,000 children and teachers.

The project includes the construction of 2 classrooms, a latrine block, a cistern and furniture.

The inauguration of the new rooms was celebrated in May 2018 in the presence of Upstalsboomers.

Our school Groupe Scolaire in Nyamiyaga

The school was founded by the government in 1963 and ten of the existing classrooms date back to this time. However, only seven of these are still accessible.

The Groupe Scolaire Nyamiyaga consists of 13 classrooms for 543 pupils from the Ecole Primaire and the Ecole Secondaire. Three rooms cannot be entered and have already partially collapsed. Seven rooms are badly damaged and do not provide an appropriate learning environment. The building fabric is in very poor condition due to its age and construction and urgently needs to be replaced with new classrooms. The floors are very uneven and the roofs of all but one of the buildings, which date back to when the school was founded, are leaking. There are large cracks in the walls, particularly around the windows, and there is a lack of desks and tables.

The project includes the construction of 3 classrooms, a latrine block, a cistern and furniture.

The inauguration of the new rooms was celebrated in May 2019 in the presence of Upstalsboomers.

Our Groupe Scolaire school in Kabirizi

The school was founded in 1945 and in 2015 the Reiner Meutsch Foundation FLY & HELP and Upstalsboom built two classrooms including a headmaster's office and a latrine block.

The primary school is run by the Protestant Church Community (EPR). The school is mainly managed by the parents' representatives. The school offers a 12-year basic education for the 544 boys and girls who currently attend the school.

The inauguration of the new rooms was celebrated in May 2019 in the presence of Upstalsboomers, and since a change in the structure of the school system in 2018, Ecole Primaire Kabirizi has had to double the number of classrooms. In order to meet the requirements, the school needs the new construction and equipment of another building block with 3 classrooms as well as the installation of a water cistern with a barrel volume of 10m³. In addition, the outside area of the school needs to be improved to prevent erosion, which can severely damage the buildings.

The inauguration of the new rooms was celebrated in the presence of Upstalsboomers in March 2020.

Our school Ecole Primaire Kagunga

The Catholic school Ecole Primaire Kagunga is located in the southern province of Nyanza district in the Ntyazo sector. Some of the existing buildings were built as early as 1957, others only recently by the district of Nyanza.

The school currently has 1,129 pupils who are taught by 17 teachers. There are 18 classrooms, 12 of which have a rotten wooden roof and very small windows. The pupils learn in shifts due to the lack of space.

The hygiene situation is also inadequate. There are only 12 toilets for the entire student body. The headmaster's office is more of a small storage room. The project includes a building with 3 classrooms and an office, a new latrine block and 2 cisterns of 10m³ each.

Our school Ecole Primaire Rugote

The school was founded in 1993 and is currently attended by 945 pupils who are taught by 21 teachers.

The school consists of 15 classrooms, which are in a tolerable condition. However, overcrowding with more than 60 children per classroom is a major challenge.

The hygiene situation is also inadequate, as the entire school only has 3 cisterns with a capacity of 5 cubic metres. The project includes the construction and equipping of 3 classrooms and the installation of a 10 cubic metre rainwater cistern.

Our school Ecole Primaire Mbuye

The school was founded in 1993 and is currently attended by 945 pupils who are taught by 21 teachers.

The school consists of 15 classrooms, which are in a tolerable condition. However, overcrowding with more than 60 children per classroom is a major challenge.

The hygiene situation is also inadequate, as the entire school only has 3 cisterns with a capacity of 5 cubic metres. The project includes the construction and equipping of 3 classrooms and the installation of a 10 cubic metre rainwater cistern.

Our school Izere-Mubyeyi

Izere-Mubyeyi School was founded in 2004 as an association and is now attended by 95 children and young people. The school is an inclusive school where children with disabilities take part in normal lessons with children without disabilities.

The Izere-Mubyeyi Association currently has one building in which all activities are housed: Headmistress's office, reception, physiotherapy and classrooms.
Despite all these activities taking place in this building, its condition is still quite good. However, there is a lack of additional space.
The hygiene situation is also inadequate, as there is only one cistern.

The project includes the construction and equipping of 3 classrooms and the installation of a 10 m³ rainwater cistern.
